In the Hebrew lust poems, which utilize biblical heroes, we can detect subtle, subversive, and surprisingly placed interpretations of biblical accounts.

Moving beyond the concern with literary history to challenge the traditional boundaries between secular and religious poetry, this book provides a new, multidisciplinary, approach to existing materials and will be of interest to students, scholars and researchers of Islamic and Jewish Studies as well as to those with an interest in Hebrew and Arabic poetry of Islamic Spain.

Philosophy of mind: made accessible to all

In ' Matters of the Mind', Prof Lyons has produced a simple book yet one with an unbelieveable wealth of knowledge. It would be criminal for me not to congratulate him. A very WELL DONE! sir
I recall I took some time deliberating to myself in the bookshop 'Books Etc' (at London's Festival Hall) at the philosophy shelves, about which philosophy book I ought to buy. I perused several intently, and remember thinking that this one was perhaps a little bit simplistic for me - having only the year before completed an MSc in cognitive science (but decided to go with it anyway). How wrong I was! This book was not at all too immature for me. To the contrary, it in fact clarified more than a few philosophy of mind issues I thought I understood before, only to realised I hadn't fully grasped the full subtleties of their understanding at all.
Whatever I'm doing a copy of 'Matters of the Mind' will never be too far away from me. I now view it as one of the most, if not the most, reliable source of authoritative understanding of philosophy of mind issues I've ever read, and will always keep a copy of it in easy reach.
It was an absolute pleasure to read something so well written on this most complex and fascinating of all subjects. This piece of work is balanced, clear, easy to follow and sweetened with wit too. Furthermore it is brilliantly illustrated, both pictorially but even more importantly metaphorically and delivered an enviously high ability to communicate. And communication ultimately is what teaching and educational writing is supposed to be about.
Thank you sir, for being considerate enough to take the time out your busy life to produce such a wonderfully accessible, yet thoroughly rigorous academic, book. No student of cognitive science should be without one!!
