Far too many errors!

Having been put in charge of teaching an advanced course for PhD students at my university, I was initially happy to find this book, because it contained so many of the topics I wanted to include. Once started on the course, however, my students and I have found it a struggle, and "another error in Graebel" has become a running joke.

Simply put, the density of typos and errors in this book is simply unacceptable. Some sections are so ridden with errors that I could not expect my students to make sense of it, so I have had to write up whole new versions of sections 3.10, 4.5 and 4.6 so far (and we still have 3 chapters to go...). Some errors are obvious, but others are very confusing: sign errors in equations, sines becoming cosines, and misleading figures are typical cases. Then there are frequent and annoying cases of symbols being redefined with the opposite sign from one section to the next without this being mentioned. Not helpful!

That said, some sections of this book are very nice, but the quality of presentation is very uneven. In parts the presentation is so compressed that it makes Landau and Lifshitz seem loquacious. Also, the figures are unimpressive througout. I don't think a textbook needs flashy colours to be good -- a simple figure is often more instructive -- but some figures in Graebel are simple without being instructive. Also, a couple of images of real flows or at least some streamline plots wouldn't hurt, just to make the student aware that this isn't a maths book.

I probably won't use this book again next year, although I'm not currently aware of a single book containing the same variety of material. I would say to the author: get a young co-author for a second edition, clean up the mess and improve presentation, and this could become a fine book. As it is, the quality reflects poorly on Wiley.

This quite possibly the worst text book I have ever used

This quite possibly the worst text book I have ever used. It was full of errors, not only in the text, but in the equations themselves. Few examples and mediocre explanations. AVOID AT ALL COSTS if possible.

Riddled with errors

A very bad textbook, riddled with errors. Perhaps the most common error I observed was in references to equations, where the wrong equation was referenced more often than not (at least it felt that way), leaving the reader to figure out which equation the author meant to reference, and making the reader doubt all equation references.
